eVidyaloka (https://www.evidyaloka.org/) is a not-for-profit organization that helps students in rural India. The online volunteer teachers that work with this organization offer support for local teachers who are in the classrooms, typically with subjects like English, science, and mathematics. The online teachers use Skype to deliver the courses to the students, but that’s not all that volunteers do. They will also help to develop lesson plans, design teaching tools, and help administer the program.
Volunteers can be based out of anywhere across the globe. The minimum expectations are that you have a reliable computer, headset, and webcam as well as broadband connection. You can either choose to volunteer as a teacher, someone who develops content, or in some other way that will help this organization run more smoothly.
By volunteering with eVidyaloka, you are donating your time to help improve the education of those children who attend schools in rural India. The problem with these schools is that there is often a shortage of teachers, meaning that sometimes children don’t get the educational support that they need. As a volunteer here, you can improve their outcomes by providing educational support.
When you sign up to volunteer, you can set up how many hours you can contribute weekly. For the most part, volunteers will complete 2 hours of volunteer work a week.
The goal of this organization is to ensure access to proper education for students. The students in this program are typically between 10 and 14 (5th – 8th grade). The volunteer teachers will deliver interactive and informational lessons that will help improve the quality of their education.
