My name is Zuma. I’m the founder and director of Cheti NGO and Mchokodo (a Tour Company) all located in Arusha, Tanzania. Im also a husband and a father of two. Cheti non-profit organization focuses on supporting indigent children and families in our community.

Cheti schools are the institutions that are supported by CHETI organization in Tanzania. These schools are aiming at providing quality education to Tanzanian children in different levels. The institutions involve Day care, Nursery schools, Primary school and Secondary school.

The major aim of this organization is to help widows, orphans and poor Tanzania children who have no access to formal education.

We’re looking for volunteers to help us achieve our goal! If you’re interested in being part of our team, please reach out!

    The role/expectations What does the work schedule look like? Please give as much detail as possible

    We do understand that most volunteers are not professional teachers but here at CHETI-NGO we have a team of experts who will work hand in hand with volunteers to assist in any ways necessary to help you execute your volunteering purpose perfectly.
    • Volunteers will assist in teaching English language by educating children about fundamental concepts, such as colors, letters, numbers, and shapes.
    • Encouraging social interactions between children and improving their self-esteem.
    • Engaging in creative methods of learning, such as arts and crafts, supervised play, and storytelling.
    • Fundraising for local development projects and finding sponsorship to the less fortune children (Optional)
    • Monitoring free time on the playground.

    Our organization has a warm environment, friendly children/staff who are helpful and happy to see volunteers. Volunteering at our organization will provide a cultural exchange in brief from learning our local way of life to experiencing in first-hand the best of what our beautiful country has to offer spiritually, geographically and culturally Volunteers will get to integrate with the locals, experience what the country and people are like and see places they have probably only seen before in television. They will get opportunities to make New Friends. Volunteers will get to meet locals and other participants from all over the world. You will form strong bonds working alongside other people from many different countries/cultures.

    Below are charges that will apply to volunteers.
    1. Airport Transfer (To & From) - $80 per person
    2. Accommodation &  Food is FREE (Local cooked foods only)
    Arusha is an incredible place rich in culture and beauty. Its located in the northern part of our country. During the weekends, a volunteer has free time to relax or take the opportunity to explore Arusha. Activities/Excursions in Arusha
    1.  Arusha City tour - $10 per person
    2. Tanzanite Museum tour - $10 per person
    3. Coffee tour - $30 per person
    4. CHEMKA (Natural hot spring) lunch  box included - $100 per person (Minimum 2 people)
    5. Maasai Village visit - $50 per person (Minimum 4 people)
    6. Swahili  cooking class - $10 per person per day.
    Arusha is also known as the safari capital of Tanzania because it is the connecting point to those interested in visiting Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park. Safari/Climbing/Zanzibar Beach
    1. 4days 3nights Ngorongoro & Serengeti National park camping safari - $700 per person (Minimum 6 people per vehicle)
    2. 5days Mount Kilimanjaro climb via Marangu route - $1,200 per person (Minimum 5 people)
    3. Zanzibar Beach Holiday - Go & return flight start at $200, Shared hostels start at $20, Excursions are covered by local guides (we can recommend the best)

    • Some useful Dos & Don’ts during your stay in Tanzania 1. Get used to the word MZUNGU 2. Receiving and giving things 3. Don't accept the first price. 4. While talking to an elderly person - Don't put your hands in your pockets. 5. Don't rest your legs on chairs/tables that you are going to use. 6. Don't cross your legs in front of elders (its disrespectful). 7. Too short shorts in villages/towns aren’t entertained (you will get uncomfortable stares) 8. Show respect to elders by greeting them. 9. Showing love affection in public is not accepted in our culture (Hugging is ok but not kissing) 10. Yelling to call someone's attention is impolite just clap your hands. 11. Sniffing food in public is not good - very impolite. 12. Try to avoid giving money to children. It is strongly discouraged. 13. Bedroom is a private place - Knock before entering any house and greet. 14. Be careful with street mental ill people (They sometimes get violent) 15. Always respect people's culture, customs and tradition. 16. Don't ever accept gifts from strangers, no matter how friendly they look/sound. 17. Remember to use these words depending on situations: thank you, excuse me, please (You will be taught in Swahili) 18. If you go to someone's house and you're offered a seat - please do not reject it. Even if you are in a hurry. Sit for a few minutes the pardon yourself. It is considered as a blessing to the whole family. 19. Some people may have financial problems. They may approach you to seek for a loan on condition that they pay later. Avoid it 20. Observe eating habits if you be/working in rural areas! They differ from one tribe to another. (Use your right hand when eating with your hands)
